Challenge

This leading global asset management organization faced significant challenges managing its trade data, which was dispersed across multiple providers and stored in various cloud environments. The lack of a unified, governed dataset made it difficult for business users to reconcile information, resulting in a substantial maintenance and evolution burden for the IT team.

Data consistency was a constant concern. The process of providing accurate, timely insights to trading teams was complex, resource-intensive, and prone to error. Legacy systems and siloed workflows created additional inefficiencies, further limiting the ability to support advanced analytics and dynamic reporting for portfolio managers and traders.

Solution

To address these challenges, the organization partnered with Opensee to fully centralize and outsource its trading database. The first step was to consolidate all trade information, previously distributed across numerous systems, into a single, governed repository. This covered the entire trade lifecycle: from the portfolio manager’s order, through execution across venues and counterparties, to final allocation for funds and client accounts.

Each step in this process had previously relied on different systems with incompatible taxonomies and data models, making it nearly impossible to track the journey of a trade or efficiently analyze execution. Opensee’s platform ingested, enriched, and governed all relevant trade data, regardless of source or format. Automated controls and advanced data quality checks were put in place, meeting both internal and regulatory standards. Daily automated reconciliations ensured the dataset remained accurate, up-to-date, and reliable.

Business users now access the platform through both an intuitive user interface and a Python SDK, with seamless integration to BI tools like Tableau and Excel. For the first time, traders and analysts can interact with current data, run analytics and calculations on the fly, and dynamically explore trade performance across any dimension - all without the delays and limitations of extract-based (T+1) reporting.

Strategic Outcomes

  • Full leverage of 100% of rich and historical trade data, gaining deeper insights into both past execution and future opportunities
  • Daily updates and a unified data model allow granular performance and unprecedented activity analysis
  • Enhanced operational efficiency and reduced manual error risk through automated quality controls and reconciliations
  • Fast, data-driven decisions for portfolio managers and traders, powered by real-time analytics and dynamic reporting
  • Future-ready platform, with rapid integration of new data sources and deployment of additional analytical use cases

Bottom Line

Opensee sets a new standard for trade data management and analytics in asset management, empowering both IT and business teams to drive innovation and improve performance.
